Club Activities
The gardening club meets on the first Thursday of most months in Hose Village Hall.
Talks
Our talks are well attended each month and cover a very varied programme delivered by enthusiastic presenters. Talks commence at 7.30pm, with doors open from 7.00pm, so there is time before the talk to socialise and catch up with friends and other Club members. At the end of the talk, tea, coffee and mountains of biscuits are served.
There is usually a modest raffle after the talk, so please bring some change if you wish to take part or if you wish to buy any donated plants.
Talks in the past have included:
- Gardening in a Changing Climate
- Heucheras, Heucherella and Tiarella
- Gardening with Wildlife
- Pruning Techniques
- Summer Planting
- Growing Hostas
- Alpines in the Wild and Cultivation
- Capability Brown
- Beekeeping
Outings
The Club organises trips from time to time. Sometimes these are local and we share transport, sometimes we travel further afield and organise a coach. Often we will visit more than one destination on the same trip, and at times we gain favourable entry prices.
In the past, we have organised trips to:
- Belvoir Castle Gardens
- Harlow Carr
- David Austin Roses
- Ellicar gardens
Plants and Cuttings
At our regular meetings in the Village Hall, there are often garden and house plants and cuttings brought in by Club Members. These are usually available for a nominal donation towards Garden Club funds.
Member’s Garden Tour
Each year we organise a tour of a member’s garden. This is always very popular and we ring the changes by asking for volunteers from different villages each year.
Expertise
Club Members will have a wide range of expertise and knowledge, and all will want to share this with other members.
December Meeting
Our yearly programme ends with a social event when we indulge in wine and mince pies to round off the year.
